Phil Parker Music LTD-London to be new UK/European distributor for Studio 259 Productions!

In what can only be described as a big week for Studio 259 Productions; In addition to the release of our newest book, Vincent Cichowicz’ Long Tone and Flow Studies for Trombone, Euphonium and Tuba, we have just entered into a good faith agreement with Phil Parker Music LTD to be the official UK/European distributor for all of our Vincent Cichowicz publications. Ever since visiting Phil Parker’s in London in 2015, I was hoping to forge some sort of partnership with them. It is an absolutely remarkable store with an enormous inventory of brass instruments, equipment and literature! It is a throwback to the music stores of the past that cater to their customer’s needs in a very personal way. I want to thank Will Hodgson and the Watson brothers very much for their willingness to proceed with this arrangement. You can visit them on line at philparker.co.uk.

By entering into this arrangement with Phil Parker’s, UK and European buyers will experience a huge reduction in shipping prices and wait time for our books. We have been trying for a while now to try and figure out how to make things faster and cheaper for our UK and European customers and we feel this might solve both issues. So, henceforth, the Studio 259 website will no longer offer shipping to Europe. All UK/European orders should be referred to Phil Parker’s Music LTD in London, UK.

We also want to give a big shout out to Andrew & Julie Naumann and Michael Zielinski of Schilke Music Products who have also helped to make this possible. We could not have done this without them! And given the close relationship between Ren Schilke and my father, it’s almost serendipitous! Thanks so much to all of you!

Studio 259 Productions to expand catalog

One of the ways we are expanding our business will be to add products from other authors and manufacturers to our website. We would like to bring what, in our opinion, are the best books, equipment and accessories to our customers to make it easier to save on shipping and to find what you’re looking for in one location. We will use this website and our Vincent Cichowicz/Studio 259 Productions Facebook Like Page to make an announcement when new products become available.

Flow Studies One Volume One and Two Companion CD’s are now available for purchase!

Since there are so many trumpet players out there that still use my father’s old syllabus and haven’t felt the need to purchase our new editions of the Flow Studies, we are making the Companion CD’s available as a separate item for purchase! Both the single CD from Flow Studies Volume One and the double CD from Flow Studies Volume Two-with Russian Studies can now be purchased separately from the books. They all feature some of Vincent Cichowicz’ finest students playing through the etudes. These wonderful performances will enable the trumpet student to hear how Mr. Cichowicz approached these etudes with his students.

New Bass Clef version of Vincent Cichowicz’ Long Tone Studies/Flow Studies Volume One coming soon!

We will soon be releasing a brand new version of our Long Tone and Flow Studies Books exclusively for bass clef instruments. Over the past few years, many trombone, euphonium and tuba players have inquired about our Vincent Cichowicz books and asked when we might be inclined to publish our Long Tone and Flow Studies for bass clef instruments. Well, that time has finally arrived! We have enlisted the help of Los Angeles trombonist and former Maynard Ferguson arranger, Nick Lane to help us in this effort. He is assessing which etudes might need to be re-configured in order to put them in a more comfortable range or just to alleviate any positional issues that the trombone might find troublesome. The Long Tone Studies and 32 of the Flow Studies will be combined together in one book. We hope to have this book ready by the fall of 2017. Stay tuned for more updates along the way!

Help Derek Watkins’ family continue the fight to fund Sarcoma research.

Derek-WatkinsTo all of my musician/trumpet playing friends! For those of you who might not be familiar with the name Derek Watkins, he is probably the greatest trumpet player you’ve never heard of. Derek has been the trumpet player on every James Bond film soundtrack ever made. That’s 23 movies! That is in addition to all sorts of other famous recordings and tours over 5 decades. He’s has one of the most beautiful and effortless sounds I’ve ever heard in my entire life!

With regret I have to tell you that Derek is fighting cancer and it has been a very tough battle. Not only do I hope that all of you out there will keep him and his family in your prayers, but I hope you will visit his website to help support his family and friends efforts to raise money and awareness of this very serious form of cancer, Sarcoma. They are accepting donations and are selling a wonderful trumpet T-shirt in order to raise money to fund more research of this awful disease. It’s a great shirt which honors the Super C “Society”, if you will, which is an organization called Sarcoma UK, that Derek and his family have formed to help fund cancer research. Please go to the website and lend a helping hand by buying a shirt, making a donation or just read more about Derek Watkins. He’s absolutely amazing!! His website is: http://www.derekwatkins.co.uk/Derek_Watkins/Welcome.html.

Since posting this  in early March, I regret to say trumpet legend Derek Watkins passed away on March 22, 2013. He will be greatly missed!

Often heard with the Royal Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestras on special recordings, Watkins worked with Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand and James Last among many others, also recording with the Beatles, Elton John and Eric Clapton. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music and designed a range of trumpets and flugelhorns much admired by professional players.

Watkins is survived by his wife, Wendy, their children, Sean, Ellie and Sarah, and three grandchildren. Derek’s family will carry on the fight to raise more money to fund cancer research through their website and Sarcoma UK, the organization they and Derek formed 2 years ago shortly after Derek was first diagnosed. Please help them continue their fight!
